A modern BORO

It is produced a red BORO dress with processed denim’s remnants. BOROs are clothes worn with mended and processed carefully in the time there were not enough resources. BOROs were historically only blue in color, but by using cloth dyed with red dye, “A modern BORO” have been re-created as “Best clothes”.


Hana Yagi

Born in Tokyo 1991. After graduated Tokyo sogo-geijyutsu high school, she studied at “coconogacco”. In 2017, she was selected as the finalist for Soen-award that is commonly called a gateway to success for new fashion designers. At the 19th Graphic “1_WALL” in 2018, she received the Encouragement award of the judges (Kenjirou Hosaka selected). In 2019, at a biggest fashion competition “International Talent Support” in Europe, is commonly called ITS, she was selected for the finalist in the fashion category as a youngest,19 years old.

 She held her exhibitions, “fragments” (In 2021/ art space traffic in Tokyo, Jiyu-gaoka), “seam” (In 2021/I SEE ALL in Osaka, Funaba) and so on.

In this exhibition, I made a red BORO with remnants processed by YutoRi18. The history of poverty in Japan is behind the clothe called BORO. Also, there are mostly blue ones, it is rarely red ones. That is why I used denim and remnants from Kimono and made “A modern BORO”.

Based on this event’s policy of respecting diversity, I would like to make the exhibition with the spirit of expanding existing values and interpretation.
